Dont Worry: From Reply 1988 to Hyung

In these few weeks, I spent my time watching a korean drama reply 1988, it was the third series of reply starting from reply 1997, reply 1994 and 1988. I was a big fan of reply since hoya was in the first series of reply. The first time I watched reply series just because of hoya was in it, but then I was fond of all the reply stories.

The latest series of reply series was reply 1988, It was released on November 2015. One of The soundtrack of it was Don't Worry by lee Juck. It was a moving song that brought a hope to a better future in a tough life.

Reply 1988 told story of a neighbourhood in ssangmun dong where a few families live by sharing their daily lives. There were five youngsters with different families and situations. Sunwoo lived with his single mother and a younger sister, Taek only had a father that live only for him, Do Ryong was a maknae in his home with a dean as father, Jung Hwan who had a scary face but has an angel heart and Duk Seon who always second from her sister and cant complain about it.

Life doesn’t always go your way, similar to the song, their lives also had ups and down, however they have to face it because it was reality. They face choices of life in order to grow up. Taek was quit his school at 8 years old to pursue baduk and  jung hwan would change his dream based on his brother dream because he was too sorry for his bother’s illness. While Do Ryong who was son of the dean of his school has no interest in study and crazy for dancing instead. Duk seon had a very limited choices of study because she was a miss rank 989 in her school. Sunwoo would do anything to lessen his mother burden by doing anything his mom wants.  Despite of their situations they were support each other and that made their friendships going strong. Despite of their busy life they always have to gather on choi taek room to share their stories.

On the other hand, hyung was a movie that released last year. I just watched it yesterday. It was about a boy named Doo Young who was a taekwondo athlete and lost his sight on olympic games . His brother got a parole to take care of him. This movie soundtrack also by Lee Juck: Dont Worry. Doo Young who already lost his parents in young age was never expect his brother who run away from home to come back. Although it was unfortunate but his brother help him to survive in his dark world.

The Ssangmun dong neighborhood lived very close to each other. Taek who had lost mother, always got food from the mothers in the neighborhood. He was a very busy baduk player and often travel abroad like to China or Japan for competition. He spent his time in his baduk club if he was not in tournament. His friend always spent time in his room at night just to watch movie or tv shows.  Duk seon the only girl in their group because her sister was a 3 years senior. She was very close to the boys to the level she was confused who was actually the one she was loved. She was first in love with Sunwoo before she knows that he was in love with her sister, then she was in love in Junghwan because despite his cold attitude, he was very caring to her and somehow she was ended with Choi Taek.

While Doo Young,  despite the hate he showed  to his brother, he was actually miss him so much. He was so desperate in his blindness and his brother existence himself was give him hope.

Like Duk Seon who let go Sunwoo because he loves her sister, Junghwan who let go Dukseon because he knows Taek was in love with her, Doo young let go of his brother due to his terminal stage of pancreatic cancer.  They have to accepted it because that was the best for the other one.

There were times that you sad and there were moments that you were grateful to have them as a friends. Actually Junghwan was also in love with Dukseon, however he was a coward. He was too afraid to hurt choi taek who was very pure and honest.  Once, Junghwan’s father was collapsed from exercise and broke his back and should operated soon, the hospital was very hectic because of 3 accidents happened that night. His father have to wait until all the emergency patients was finished operated. Taek’s father call to  inform him and taek call the head of surgeon on that hospital to ask a favor.  Junghwan at that moment was so grateful to taek that he couldn't hate taek a little bit.

Doo Young, was so busy with practice before he lost his sight, he never knew how was the life of a teenager supposed to be. His brother showed a different side of life to him. They went to bought pretty clothes, went to club and look for a girl. The things that he didn't know before, he did it with his brother.

As life has to move on, a young teenager had to grown up by time. Choi Taek become a 9 Dan Baduk Player, Sunwoo Become a Doctor as his mother wish, Doo Ryung Has his own restaurant, Dukseon become a stewardess and Junghwan become an airforce pilot as his inspiration from top gun movie.

As Doo Young, He has to live without his brother. He was become a gold medalist on paralympic on Rio De Janeiro. His brother made sure that he was able to live without him.

Just let the past be the past, It’s meaningful in that way, Let’s all sing together, Say you dreamed with no regrets, Say you’ll dream new dreams. Let the dreams lead the way and enjoy the process because you cannot repeat your youth. It only happen once.
